Hair today!

1 December, 2010 after around three years of growth I cut my hair off. So here are photos of the event :)
Before.
Brittney cut my hair. She's awesome!
The above was after she cut off my ponytail and had evened things out a bit. And that's the reflection in the mirror.
Almost finished :)
New hair style and my head feels so much lighter.
I am definitely going back to Brittney.
I had a great time getting my hair cut and Brittney said that they like getting clients like me because they don't get to do big changes for people very often. She also liked the fact that I had absolutely no regrets getting it chopped off.
And here is my ponytail.

Bastian Family Reunion 2010

I know, it took me long enough.
The Bastian Family Reunion this year took place mostly in Garland, Utah. My grandma lives there next door to one of my aunts and another aunt lives in Tremonton.  It went from Thursday July 22 until Saturday July 24. Thursday was everyone getting settled and saying hello to each other.

Friday we went on a hike. I don't remember the area we went to. That's my fault for not paying attention and waiting so long to blog :)  It was in the mountains east of Logan, Utah. It was a pretty long hike and parts of it were kind of difficult, especially if you weren't in the best shape. It was beautiful up there though.

There was a lake/large pond at the end of the trail. Some of the guys went swimming in it before we headed back out. Thanks Lizz for helping me take some great pictures.

Uncle Neil, Uncle Ken, and Jared.
Cindy, Mike and Matt.
Cousin James decided to walk on a floating log. He made it most of the way along it.

Friday evening was the traditional program. Usually we did a talent show of sorts but this year Michelle got Grandma's help to write about how Grandma and Grandpa met. They asked me to read Grandma's story and various others read poems, sang songs and told stories.
                                    Greg
                                     Shaun
                                     Lizz and her girls.
                                     Everyone who sang.

It was really fun to hear Grandma and Grandpa's love story and hear about Grandpa from  Uncle Neil and Uncle Ken. I think everyone cried at some point and we all felt Grandpa's presence, and how much he loves Grandma and all of us.

It was a fun weekend, as always. And it was great to see some cousins that we don't get to see very often.

Stadium of Fire

Mikol and Gerrit asked me go to the Stadium of Fire with them on 3 July. It was very fun. Lou Diamond Phillips was the MC, the Five Browns played a John Williams medley, the Osmond's Second Generation sang, and Carrie Underwood was the main act. The fireworks were great and the weather was perfect. The sponsors gave a discount to military and their family and even had the show broadcast to various bases through the Armed Forces Network(?).

Since it is also the 100 year anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America there was a Court of Honor for 261 Boy Scouts. The gentleman that opened the court of honor is 98 years old and I believe he is also an Eagle Scout. It was awesome to be there for all of that. The men who did the flyover were all scouts and three of them are Eagle Scouts, as well.

We were sitting at the north end of the field. The fireworks were set up on the south side on the bleachers.

Gerrit wouldn't get in the picture. I am really grateful that these too are my friends. I love 'em :)

I couldn't zoom in far enough to actually see Lou Diamond Phillips but I got him on the screen.

Carrie Underwood was great. Would this be considered the first concert I've been to?

Can you see the shape they were making? You have to imagine you are looking from the right side. The scouts were holding the blue lights and there were a bunch of dancers that were moving the white lights with the music. The red was fireworks that went off just as I was taking the photo. Perfect timing :) I also like that you can see the Statue of Liberty on the screen in the middle of the field.

We had a good time. All the music was good. I always get teary when there is a flag ceremony and I cried when we said the Pledge of Allegiance. I am so grateful to all the men and women who have fought and died to give us freedom and to keep us safe. Especially my grandfather, brother, and two good friends including Gerrit. Happy 4 July, 2010!

Hiking

On Monday 7 June I went hiking with LoriAnn and Jason. We went up Taylor canyon. I have to say that I am REALLY out of shape. I about died going up. Makena, their dog, went too. She had a lot of fun. The canyon was very pretty and the weather was great.

Makena carried LoriAnn and Jason's water. It helped slow her down... a little :)

James says I have to take pictures of myself, so this for you, James :)

This is Jason, LoriAnn's hubby. I think next time we need to take a picnic. The trees were nice and there was a good amount of shade.

I'm not the only one that makes faces James!

Going up Jason and the dog were in front and this lizard startled them. It was hanging out in the same area on the way back down  so I took this photo. It was about 6 or 7 inches long.

So we had fun and I definitely need to do it more often. Anyone want to join me?

P.S. For more photos go to my Profile on Facebook :)

Moved!

Sorry it's been a while. We've moved! We are in Ogden now and have been getting settled. We are mostly unpacked. There are some things to do still. I have been looking for a job (not fun) and we've been getting things organized. Things have slowed down now so I can do this again. I will get some photos posted next. I have photos of a hike I went on with LoriAnn and Jason and I will get some of the house. Thanks for the help people gave us. Thanks to you we got moved in one big trip. I will give more details about the move when I get photos :)

Day Out

Mikol and I went for a short hike today. We were in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It's a very good place to go hiking and picnicking. We took a lot of photos, and no there are none of me. Get over it. There may not be many of me on this blog.

I was playing with the camera. :)

It was a very nice day to be outside. We had fun and got a little exercise. And some great pics :)

The Crafter

So I purchased all the materials I would need to do this really great stitching project two years ago. I started it almost immediately... and finished in January of this year. I am sometimes a slacker, I admit it. Anyway, here is a photo of the project before framing.

I worked for the Zimmermans at Zim's Crafts for about three years before they had to close their stores (very sad day). I made some great friends there and we have done some really fun scrapbooking and card making projects together. Kathy and I decided to do a stitching project together. The same pattern but choosing different colors. While choosing my colors we found a really cute combination and got Micki involved. Stephanie found out and decided to join in as well.

This is some of what I've done so far. Like I said, we each chose different colors to make them unique.

This pattern is unlike anything I've done. I usually don't do samplers either, but I wanted to try some new stuff and play with different fibers, which makes this really fun. This is far from finished and will hopefully (fingers crossed) look really great. Some of what is there can't be seen very well, it's meant to be seen in person or at least with better lighting. I will add other photos as I progress.

Rainy Day

So. . . I love rain. The only bad thing about it now is that I am not needed at work. I think I may have to go for a walk in it :) Yes, I am crazy. I can't help it. The only draw back is the cold. Oh well!

The getting up early thing is pretty difficult. I have been awake since a little after eight this morning. Didn't want to get out of bed, though.

The Ogden job hunt is proving less successful. Why don't people want to even interview me? It's fairly frustrating. I am getting to the bottom of the barrel and I don't like what's down there. For those of you don't know, James and I are moving to Ogden at the end of May. The goal is to get out of debt and this is hopefully going to help with that. If I can get a job up there.

Day Off

After some consideration I think my problem was never waking up early it's getting out of bed when I do wake up :) I guess the next thing would be whether I got good enough sleep to want to be up. It doesn't make things go to smoothly if you wake up with a migraine.

Today is a beautiful day and I think I need to go hiking or at least for a walk. We are going up Big Cottonwood Canyon today since it's so nice. Hopefully some friends will join us.

I planted some chives today. James and I planted some chives ;) They are in a little pot and will be transplanted when they get big enough. One of my favorite memories of living next door to my grandparents was eating chives from the plant they had in their yard. *sigh*

New Day

So I woke up "early" and it seemed to help me be in a better mood sooner. Then my allergies, despite taking everything I could, decided to act up today. Yeah for dry itchy eyes. Now I need to decide on a routine to help me actually get out of bed when I wake up. Any suggestions? Aside from pray and scripture study. Those are on my list already.

A New Beginning?

I wanted to get my own blog as a sort of journal. I have come across several things that have inspired this and I hope it will help to achieve some goals I have. They include, but may not be limited to, exercising, healthier eating, waking up earlier (insert comments here), and journaling :)

This is going to be my way of keeping track of my progress. Any who want to join me in my quest can contact me for details. I would love to have some friends to share success with. I will be starting my early morning experiment tomorrow. We shall see if I am successful with my desire to become a morning person. And if I hear any negative comments about that, you are all fired!
